The Afternoon Rainbow and the Planetary Conjunction

It was about thirty minutes past four in the afternoon yesterday when I went outside our backyard to have a little bit of air. The weather yesterday was the best , for me, in the last ten days that passed. There was no rain. It was not too hot. The weather was not in its regular mood-swing.

The sky was slightly cloudy, only feather-like cirrus clouds dominated its vastness. Although, towards the extreme east-Eastern Samar-a not so heavy concentration of nimbus clouds were to be seen. About three minutes later, as I was pacing the area-just for a little walking exercise, it began to drizzle. As I looked up trying to analyze if it was to rain heavy and if the weather was starting to become moody again, an arch of seven colors extending from the north to the east mystified my eyes. My eyes continued to be glued on the image that was above me for about a minute. Then, I realized that I have not seen any rainbow in the past two months. I could not help but be captivated by its perfect curve and colours. Who wouldn't be moved by a scene where birds fly over the rainbow?.I was so delighted to see it that I gave it a name. I called it Rappel, the french equivalent of reminder. Why? Simply, it reminds us God's love and promise after the world's destruction due to the flood that Noah and his Arch had to endure.

Rappel had a certain effect on me. It reminded me of His divine promise. It meant divine love. It meant hope.

The darkness gradually extinguised the remaining daylight. Never thought that the night sky would even be more surprising and mesmerizing. Every night of December, I always see to it to glance even just for a few moments outside, towards the sky-towards the southwest. At this direction, I expect a star shining brightly in from late September towards the end of January. This star, whose name i have still to look for, is my sign that Christmas is coming. Its brighter and visibly larger compared to its neighbors, so there's no reason you can't discern it when you look at its direction. But last night was something surprising to me-hope to everyone else whose seen it too. I haven't seen that star. Instead, I saw the moon in its magical lying cresent with two bright objects positioned laterally above its arrows. As I saw this, I rushed searching for my father's fone for camera. I took a picture of it but it did not clearly register on the camera. Disappointed, I erased the image and decided to look at the sky again. The three objects positioned in a way that they portrayed something was overwhelmingly satisfying, you'll just have to record its image in your heart and mind-no need of cameras. It was what astronomers call a planetary conjuction. In the case of last night, it was jupiter and venus.

It was like someone was smiling at me. It was like someone was smiling at the world!

If these were signs of things to come, the rainbow and the smiling sky, I hope they'd be something worth smiling, and something that could paint happy colours to my life, my family, my community, my country-the Philippines, and the world through His guidance and divine will.
